Compare dual-sensor cameras by optical and thermal specifications. Match lens choice and field of view to the area being observed.
A thermal sensor sees heat, not light. It picks a person or vehicle out of unlit ground, foliage, fog and glare, at ranges where a conventional camera sees nothing. It will not tell you who that person is. That is why these three models pair a thermal sensor with an optical one in the same housing: thermal triggers the event, optical provides the recognisable image.
All three are 5MP dual-sensor bullets, and the thermal lens sets the detection range. The 7mm model gives the widest field for short perimeters, yard boundaries and building lines. The 12.3mm model narrows the view for a longer fence run or approach. The 25mm model reaches furthest — 70–100m — for open ground, tree lines and waterfront. A longer lens sees further and covers less; walk the perimeter and count how many cameras each option would actually need.
Unlit perimeters, storage yards, solar and utility sites, marinas and rural boundaries — anywhere you need to know something entered the area and lighting the whole space is impractical. Thermal also cuts the false alarms that plague conventional detection in rain, blowing foliage and headlight glare, because it responds to heat signature rather than pixel change.
Thermal cameras carry export and compliance considerations that standard cameras do not, and detection range figures assume a person-sized target under reasonable conditions. Review each model's datasheet against the distances on your site, and confirm the requirements with the reseller before ordering.
