Specifying a Sibell LPR camera

An LPR camera is a single-purpose camera

Plate capture and scene overview are different jobs and they need different cameras. An LPR camera is set up tight on the lane, at a shallow angle to the plate, with exposure tuned for a retroreflective surface rather than for the car or the driver. Footage from it will look dark and narrow — that is the camera working correctly. Budget a separate overview camera for context.

Lens range sets the capture distance

This is the main choice between the three models. The 2.8–12mm model suits short approaches: a gate, a barrier, a single lane at close range, with capture around 230 feet. The two 8–32mm models reach considerably further — roughly 328 feet, or 50–70m on the V2 — for long driveways, multi-lane entrances and road-facing positions. Pick the shortest lens that reaches your plate position; over-specifying makes the camera harder to aim and less forgiving.

Angle and speed decide whether it works

Keep the horizontal angle to the plate as shallow as the site allows, and mount low enough that the vertical angle stays modest. Faster traffic needs a shorter shutter, which needs more light, which pushes you toward a closer mounting position. A camera aimed across a wide angle at a fast lane will miss plates regardless of resolution.

Check the recorder side

Confirm how plate data is handled — whether recognition runs at the camera or on the recorder — and confirm the channel and storage impact before specifying. Review the model datasheet for the supported capture speed and lane width, and confirm any conflicting values with the reseller before installation.
